Traditionally the Certified Designers Society was made up of members that held either Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) and/or Certified Bathroom Designer (CBD). These qualifications were developed by the NKBA as at that time there was no NZQA qualification that encompassed kitchen and bathroom design as a separate skill set.
NZQA in conjunction with NKBA then established the current national certificate and diploma qualifications which along with CKD and CBD make up the base set of qualifications that CSD members hold. The CKD and CBD has now been superseded by the NZQA qualifications.

In recent times the Society has welcomed proven kitchen and bathroom designers with complementary qualifications such as interior design and architectural qualifications.
All potential members must supply evidence of work that meets the board’s standards and they then must maintain ongoing professional development points (OPD). OPD ensures the CDS members are educated regularly and are current in their field of expertise.
